Vision and Goals

Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a great summer!

This year Fox Hill begins its second full year of 1:1 iPads in grades 1-5. Kindergarten will continue to have 3-4 iPads each to use as device centers in their classrooms.  Once again All iPads across the district have a set of foundational apps, selected by the BPS Educational Technology team, that are appropriate for use across all curriculum; ELA, Math, Science, and Social studies. Of those, six core apps will be the focus of iPad use;  Explain Everything, iMovie, Book Creator, Google Drive, Notability, and Blogger.  Additional apps can be added by teachers with classroom Apple ID /iTunes accounts.

Technology Integration:

Instruction will continue to be enhanced by teachers using laptop computers and iPads along with interactive whiteboards with mounted projectors in all classrooms. In addition to iPads, 24 computers are continue to be located in the Fox Hill technology lab for standardized testing & assessments, and 44 Chrome Books are available for student use.

As the Instructional Technology Specialist (ITS) at Fox Hill I still have many roles. I am a teacher, instructional leader, technology integrator, professional developer, encourager, and problem solver.  I hope that all of these roles will help me to improve the educational environment at Fox Hill. My most important integration tool is connecting with teachers.  The computer lab is no longer my primary teaching and support space. I must work to be a part of all learning spaces in school, especially in our 1:1 environment.
My goal is for teachers to feel more comfortable using technology making them more willing to try new things and ultimately become more  productive with technology in their classrooms.  In the coming year I plan to be highly visible, walking through school daily, visiting classrooms. I want to encourage teachers to benefit from the use of technology, using it to meet their instructional needs, enhance and extend their teaching,  add more interactive learning experiences for their students, meet common core standards, and revitalize their enjoyment of teaching.Digital Literacy: (Click to go to the Digital Literacy Page)

With all of our new technology and increased access to the online world, Digital Literacy, stressing the importance of creating appropriate and meaningful digital footprints, increasing information literacy, and the continued importance of Internet Safety will be at the center of all technology instruction. Today’s students are at an advantage if they emerge from their elementary education with a solid grounding in fundamental technological skills that will help them not only achieve standards and reach goals in the classroom, but also “do good” and become creative & inspired digital citizens.

Please feel free to contact me by clicking on the email address below if you have any question about your child’s technology education at Fox Hill. I would be glad to provide more details about the technology curriculum, the devices and apps students are using in the classroom, or standardized testing on devices and computers.
