Hopscotch App – Teaching students to code

Getting a head start on an Hour of Code week (December 8-14) I have introduced Hopscotch to 3rd and 4th grade students in November.

Hopscotch is a fun, engaging way to introduce students to coding while teaching math principles and cognitive thinking skills.

Teaching students how to code/program, teaches them how to use logical thinking and abstraction to develop generalized solutions to complex problems.
Students are asked to program characters in a step by step process in order to make them do certain things, such as draw a square.

Critical thinking skills will improve and show in other subjects such as ELA and Math where students are asked to understand the meaning behind a story or figure out the sequence of steps needed to solve an math problem. In all cases students learn to make connections to solve problems.
