This past week, Fox Hill kindergarten students visited the Computer lab for an introduction to iPads and the workstations in the lab. After learning about about the basic differences between devices, students were introduced to Brain Pop and Brain Pop Jr. which can be accessed via the Internet or on iPads, making it a tool students can access on all of our schools devices and at home.
Students watched a brief movie, introducing them to the explorer Christopher Columbus, and how he set out to prove that the world was round and not flat. They also learned about where he landed on his voyages from the Old World to the New World, and the names of his ships! Student learning was extended through Brain Pop Jr’s “Draw about it” activity where students were able to practice their computer mouse skills and draw their own sailing ship on the computer.
For further follow up, Classroom teachers were also given copies of a cut and paste ship building activity for students to create their own Christopher Columbus sailing ships.
